This document is designed to be of practical use for staff in schools and early years' settings in preparing for, and handling and recovering from, critical incidents, such as a stabbing on a school site, a fire, or a flood.

 

It is not designed to cover every eventuality, but to provide tools to allow each school and early years setting to be well prepared to handle critical incidents, and to minimise their occurrence and their impact.

What is a critical incident?

Critical incident describes any occurrence, which constitutes a major disruption arising with little or no warning on a scale beyond the coping capacity of the school operating under normal conditions.
