Schools

Starting School?

Making sure you select the right school for you and your child is one of the most important decisions for a parent or carer.

Finding a school

Schools in the borough|

There are 59 schools in the borough, 9 of them are secondary schools.

The Admissions Team annually publish information to help you make informed choices about expressing a preference for a school in the borough.

Attending school

All children benefit from attending school regularly. As well as educating children, schools provide opportunities for making friends and learning how to get on with people.

Children are also encouraged to develop any talents or skills they may have, as well as the essential skills of reading, writing and number. Children who do not attend school miss out on these opportunities.

The Access and Attendance Team works with all schools to advise on attendance management issues and to take referrals on pupils who attend irregularly.

School catering

The School Catering Service tries to create interesting and nutritious meals for all children within the price constraints.

School meals offer a selection of freshly cooked main meals and desserts every day, often including pasta, salad, fresh fruit and yoghurt. Information on school meals can be found under catering services.

Homework help

Libraries are a good place to do homework - they have the books and resources, the peace and quiet and the staff to help if you get stuck - all libraries include free internet access. Find out where your nearest library is located.

Special education needs

The Special Educational Needs team can offer advice and support for pupils who have special educational needs. We are determined to offer the best possible education opportunities for all children, regardless of any special educational needs they may have.
