Citizens' Panel

Barking and Dagenham

What is the Citizens' Panel?

It's a way to keep the Council informed about public opinion.

It's made up of 1,000 people from across Barking and Dagenham who share their views and ideas on a wide range of issues.

Who is on the Citizens' Panel?

The panel includes people from all backgrounds and all areas across the borough. To ensure the panel mirrors the population of the city, people are selected on the basis of age, gender, ethnicity, disability and whereabouts they live.

What do panel members do?

Depending on what they are interested in, they can complete up to 4 surveys a year and be invited to attend group discussions or workshops on particular issues which include:

What happens with the results?

Results help us to make decisions that ensure we provide high quality, value for money services to the people of Barking and Dagenham.

Why do you want to know personal details about me?

The information we ask about your age, gender, health, and so on helps ensure that there is an even mix of males, females, age groups and other factors.

It also allows us to analyse the information gathered from any consultation by different categories so we find out who is using our services. This in turn helps us to improve our services and make sure people receive services that meet their needs.

How can I join the Citizens' Panel?

Panel membership is usually by recruitment questionnaires sent to a random selection of households across the borough.

Each year one third of panel members are changed. This ensures that more people are given the opportunity to join the panel and that panel members continue to reflect the population of the borough.

From time to time during the year we may have vacancies on the Panel, so if you are interested:
