Barking Learning Centre celebrates official opening

Barking Learning Centre celebrated its official opening with a visit by John Denham MP, Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills, on Wednesday 11 June 2008.

The event, timed to celebrate the Barking Learning Centre's first birthday, gave Mr Denham an opportunity to hear about the outstanding work being delivered by Barking and Dagenham Council and its partners.

Councillor Charles Fairbrass MBE, Leader of the Council, said:

"I am delighted to welcome the secretary of state, the Rt Hon John Denham MP to the official opening of the Barking Learning Centre, a service of which we are extremely proud.

"Barking Learning Centre provides learning opportunities from basic skills through to further and higher education, specialising in education and skills development for public sector workers."

Mr Denham was greeted by the Barking and Dagenham Mayor, Emmanuel Obasohan and taken on a guided tour of the Barking Learning Centre accompanied by Rob Whiteman, Council Chief Executive.
