Latest figures released from the Metropolitan Police show that the safest homes in London are based in Barking and Dagenham. The figures show that Eastbrook ward had the lowest break-ins, with only 1.68 break-ins per 1,000 residents.
The low number of burglaries can be attributed to a number of joint initiatives run by the Council and the police. The Council has installed alleygates to alleys and side roads used for antisocial behaviour. It has also fitted locks and safety measures to the homes of those that feel vulnerable through its Safer Homes scheme.
The police have increased the number of high visibility patrols in the area and have also worked with Council's neighbourhood management team to hold workshops on crime prevention. At these workshops residents can bring along their valuable items to be marked and there is also advice on how people can make their homes more secure.
