The countdown to the Olympics will begin in earnest on Saturday 26 January 2008 when the London 2012 Olympic roadshow comes to Barking and Dagenham.
As part of the preparations for the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, the Get Set London Roadshow will be on tour at Vicarage Field Shopping Centre between 9am - 5pm.
The roadshow which will be launched by Councillor Fred Barns, the Mayor of Barking and Dagenham, will give local residents and businesses the chance to find out all they need to know about the Games and what opportunities will be open to them.
The event will allow people to try out sporting equipment, find out what sporting and employment opportunities are available to them as well as how they can get involved in volunteering in the borough and at the Games themselves.
Barking and Dagenham has also launched its very own Living the Dream Trust to help raise money for the borough's potential Olympians. More information about the Trust will be available on the day.
Councillor Graham Bramley, Barking and Dagenham Executive Member for the Olympics, said:
"We are very proud to be one of the first London boroughs to host the Get Set Roadshow as part of the build up to the London 2012 Games.
"We have been working hard as a Council with local businesses, sports clubs, the voluntary sector and our potential Olympians to kick-start our Olympic ambitions for Barking and Dagenham. We have already done a lot of work by launching our Living the Dream Trust and have launched our FANs scheme which provides our young athletes with free access to sporting facilities."
He added: "It is an exciting time and we hope that the Get Set Roadshow will showcase just how many benefits the Olympics will bring to the residents and businesses of our borough."
