The Council would like to thank the thousands of people who have used the new blue box glass recycling service in its first week.
The scheme has been much more successful than expected, with an astonishing 30 extra tonnes of glass collected in the first week.
Councillor Milton McKenzie, Executive Member for Waste, would now like to thank local people for taking part.
He said:
"We couldn't have asked for a better start, and I am delighted at the way the people of this borough have embraced the scheme. It shows that Barking and Dagenham is as ready to recycle as anyone else.
"The recycling team has done really well to get this scheme off the ground so quickly, but my thanks really do have to go to our residents who have taken part.
"I would like to give my sincerest thanks to every resident who has used the scheme in the first week, and let them know that their contribution has made a big difference to the borough already."
