A13 Artscape has provided all involved with immense challenges, from the intricacies of the complexities of the contracts with Transport for London and private finance initiative partners, the endeavour to realise the artists' visions and support the integrity of that vision to engaging the community in a seemingly remote agenda.
We have achieved the project with the commitment and support of all the artists and designers and with development and management support provided throughout by Geoff Wood of Working pArts, with further support from arts consultant Hazel Colquhoun.
Following a review of Capital Programme schemes by the Arts Council of England, the project will not see its true completion as specified in Arterial.
A13 Artscape will therefore end this autumn, minus the vertical elements of 3 towers, which were to be located across the borough as an indication of vertical linearity to complement the horizontal linearity and several discreet landscaping projects that had local resonance.
The ambition to retain the principles, introduced by the scheme, remain and will continue to influence the policy and project planning of the authority.
Thanks to A13 Artscape, we have a strong commitment to involving artists and designers in the public realm and in securing funding for public art and design in the future regeneration plans for the riverside.
