The Community Music Service organises 2 music schools (Saturday) in the borough:
Instrumental/theory lessons and ensembles take place at the Music Centre, Adult College on Saturday mornings term time. A range of instruments are offered including: dhol, tabla, woodwind, brass, strings and drum kit.
To apply for a Saturday Music School place you must complete a Saturday application form and send it to the Music Centre.
Pupils who do not attend Barking and Dagenham schools but who do live in the borough can apply to the Saturday Music School. A subsidised fee is charged as explained in the Saturday Music School charging policy.
This pilot programme began in October 2005. It is currently open to pupils at Dagenham Park and Jo Richardson Community School pupils and targeted primary schools only. The music activities include: World percussion (rhythm) outreach classes, drum kit, guitar and bass and vocal tuition and support for bands.
Application forms are available from participating schools.
