About the Artists|

A dazzling display that will transform Barking Town Centre into a place of love and light with imagery that is stunningly bright and lovely!

Love and Light illuminates and animates key landmarks in the Town Centre with a series of video arts installations on the Saturday before Valentine's Day.

With funding from Arts Council of England for temporary public artworks, Barking and Dagenham Arts Programme and Cultural Development have commissioned 5 international artists from Plugfish to put together a trail of video projections highlighting the local heritage and creative energy of the borough.

Love and Light sees Barking Town Centre transformed with stunning imagery which can be seen throughout the area.

Glittering animated video 'stained glass' and images of local residents will dance across Barking Abbey, lighting up St Margaret's Church and the Curfew Tower.

Make your way down to the Town Quay to see entrancing figures and forms on the water surface which will rotate and grow before your eyes.

There is activity during the day too, when the bandstand is turned into a moving artwork, as East Street Market traders and their wares become the stars of amusing and playful scenes displayed on large plasma screens.

Expect to see a couple of surprise items too springing up over the evening, so keep your eyes and ears open.

This is a Valentine weekend celebration of love and light to transfix and enchant you.

Funded by Arts Council of England, this event is facilitated by the A13 Artscape Temporary Artworks budget, celebrating the achievements of the 7 year environmental improvement scheme that saw one of the largest and most ambitious public arts projects in the United Kingdom.

Something sparkly and spectacular in the midst of February, Love and Light will bring a bit of Bond Street to Barking, raising the profile of the arts and the central role of culture and creativity in the regeneration of the area.

An exciting and dynamic light show heralding the redevelopment of Barking Town Centre, already visibly underway - things are changing for the better!

How to get there:

By underground take the District Line or by train the Silver Link to Barking Station. On leaving the station, turn right onto Station Parade and walk straight on into East Street.

By car, from central London take A13 east to Newham Way, then A406 to the A124 to Barking Town Centre. Multistorey car park on London Road.
