Demolition begins at Dagenham Heathway|

Work has begun on a new development at Dagenham Heathway which will bring a major new library, a Council One Stop Shop, a 400 square metre retail unit and 82 flats containing affordable housing.

Local Publication wins Crime Writers' Award

The latest local history publication produced by the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, has won an award. The Golden Dagger Award prize for non-fiction crime writing was awarded by the Crime Writers' Association.

 

The winning book, The Dagenham Murder: The brutal killing of PC George Clark 1846, published in December 2005 was written by Local Studies Librarian Linda Rhodes in collaboration with Lee Shelden and Kathryn Abnett. The Crime Writers Association judges commented that the book is:

"A definitive account of the notorious murder of a Victorian policeman. Extensively researched and well written".

Copies of the book can be purchased from any Barking and Dagenham library, Valence House Museum and online - priced £9.99.

The London Lives website is a celebration of London's famous people and places. Library staff in the London boroughs have compiled a list of books about the notable characters and unusual features of the London area.
