A unique roadshow will tour the borough later this month with the aim of giving residents an insight into the regeneration of Barking and Dagenham, and more importantly, how regeneration can positively impact on their lives.
A high-tech mobile office will visit 6 locations across the borough in 6 days, where residents will be able to participate in workshops, view DVDs and even play a specially designed computer game by Atacama.
Council officials will be on hand to answer any questions you may have about a range of issues of regeneration-related issues from what the borough will look like over the coming years to housing, employment opportunities, developing skills, and starting your own business plus much, much more.
The borough is undergoing major changes both in its physical appearance, will the creation of new sites such as the Barking Learning Centre and the Malthouse creative centre, as well as the services on offer to residents, such as vocational training, business start-up opportunities and boosting access to jobs and housing.
Other areas to be covered will include training opportunities for young people, sport and leisure and the arts.
There will be a host of fun games and activities available to occupy the youngsters, and a competition will take place each day offering those present the chance to win some great prizes.
Councillor Sid Kallar MBE, Executive Member for Regeneration, who will launch the Talkin' 'bout Regeneration Roadshow in Barking Town Square, said:
"This borough is undergoing massive changes. These changes will present the people who live here with a host of new opportunities to improve and develop their lives. We want to share that information with them, and provide residents with all the information they need about how they can benefit from the regeneration process.
"For many people regeneration ends at projects like the creation of a new community at Barking Riverside. While this a huge project that will create 11,000 homes and many jobs, the regeneration of our borough of our borough also impacts on the smaller things like education, the arts and business start-up projects that can transform people's lives for the better.
"The regeneration process will create around 17,000 jobs, and given that we are also uniquely placed within the Government's Thames Gateway project, now is the time for people to find out what's in it for them".
