Psychologists have a continuing role with regard to our students from 16 onwards in educational provision. The arrangements for students with additional and special needs are often very different from those made in schools.
There is a service level agreement with Barking College to provide psychology service support to the college. The psychologists who work with the college undertake a range of work.
Psychologists have an important role to play with regard to the planning of transition arrangements for students to enable successful transfer from school to college. This involves close liaison with other Services, particularly Connexions.
A recent study in an further education college found that following a series of staff consultation groups facilitated by a psychologist, 75% of staff felt that their understanding and knowledge of the needs of the students they worked with had increased.
"There has been an exciting opportunity for 3 students in the School of Supportive Education to train as research assistants and participate in a project about student views on their transfer from school to college".
