Education Otherwise

Educating your child at home

This Council respects that some parents, carers, or legal guardians, choose to educate their child at home, which is otherwise than at school, for a range of reasons.

This Council recognises the right of parents to educate their child at home and will work in partnership with parents to ensure their child receives a broad, balanced and efficient education suitable to their needs.

What should you do if you want to educate your child otherwise than at school, including in your home?

Parents need to write to the Head Teacher of their child's school informing them of their decision. The school should then inform the local authority.

If the child is not on roll at a school then parents are asked to inform the local authority if they are providing, or intending providing their child with education otherwise than at school.
