The Early Intervention Service is a small preventive, child-centred Service working to promote the inclusion of young children aged 4-7, who have been identified as at risk of current or later educational and/or social exclusion.
It works across the borough with schools and parents/carers of pupils who show significant and enduring emotional, social and behavioural difficulties, both in School and at home which are interfering with their learning and relationships.
Its multi-disciplinary team of teachers, Senior Nursery Nurses and Family Therapists offer a range of time limited therapeutic educational services to this age group of pupil, including individually tailored joint school/home packages of daily intensive support for up to 20 young children which can last up to a year.
It is regarded by the local education authority as a Special Needs intervention for pupils at, or approaching 'Schools Action Plus' on the Special Educational needs Code of Practice.
The Service operates out of 2 multi-purpose Centres. Acorns 1 accepts referrals from Schools from a catchment area across the southern part of the borough, while Acorns 2 covers the remainder.
