In Barking and Dagenham there is a range of early years provision available for children under 5.
There is a nursery class in every infant and primary school in Barking and Dagenham. Nursery classes are led by qualified teachers and are subject to inspection by the government's Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted).
Children of parents/ carers resident in the borough may be admitted to nursery classes in the September before their 4th birthday.
There are sufficient places for all children in the borough to be able to benefit from free part-time nursery education at either a morning or afternoon session.

There are a number of nurseries in the borough run by private organisations. They aim to provide affordable care for the young children of working parents/ carers.
Day nurseries must be registered and are subject to inspection by Ofsted. They can offer free education services for children over 3 years of age.

Children's Centres provide full daycare for children aged 0-5 years of age. They are available from 8am - 6pm, 48 weeks of the year. All the children's centres are located on or close to school sites.
