There are many public websites that can provide information about special educational needs and disabilities.

 

Adult and Community Services web links - Disabilities|

Provides links to range of websites for adults and children with disabilities.

 

Community Educational Psychology Service|

Work with children and young people whose behaviour, learning or development has raised concern. Our Child Choices booklet (PDF logo PDF 1.17M) gives information about services available for children and young people aged under 19 in the borough.

I Can|

Is the children's communication charity. It works to foster the development of speech, language and communication skills in all children with a special focus on children with a communication disability.

 

Afasic|

Is a parent-led organisation that helps children and young people with speech and language impairments and their families. Provides information and training for parents - and professionals - and produce a range publications.

 

Royal National Institute for Deaf People|

Helps deaf and hard-of-hearing people in the UK.

 

National Deaf Children's Society|

Is an organisation of families, parents and carers, providing emotional and practical support.

 

Royal National Institute for the Blind|

Helps blind and partially sighted people in the UK.

 

Scope|

Is a disability organisation in England and Wales whose focus is people with cerebral palsy. Scope's aim is that disabled people achieve equality: a society in which they are as valued, and have the same human and civil rights, as everyone else.

 

Young Minds|

Is the children's mental health charity which has a range of information on a variety of subjects such as attention deficit hyperactive disorder, adolescents, bereavement, children under 12, depression, education and mental health.

 

Contact a Family|

Is a UK charity providing advice, information and support to the parents of all disabled children - no matter what their disability or health condition.

 

Advisory Centre for Education|

Is an independent registered charity. It offers telephone advice and information about state education in England and Wales for parents of school-age children, including special educational needs.

 

Special Educational Needs Teacher|

Includes resources, downloads, links and documents for those involved in educating pupils with learning difficulties, autism and other special educational needs. Some of the materials may also be useful to teachers and parents of primary-school children.
