Third Party Reporting Sites

 

The Stephen Lawrence Inquiry Report made many recommendations to improve the levels of hate crime reporting.

 

One of the recommendations states that all possible steps should be taken by the Police in particular at a local level including giving the public, the ability to report at locations other than Police stations.

 

This is known as third party reporting. Only with the expressed consent of the victim would the third party reporting site share the report with the Council and/or with the Police.

 

The third party reporting sites in Barking and Dagenham are:

 

Victim Support Barking and Dagenham|

Helps Barking and Dagenham residents cope with the effects of crime. They provide confidential support and information to victims of crime and to witnesses attending local courts.

 

Their services are free, independent of the Police and courts, and available to everyone, whether or not the crime has been reported and regardless of when it happened. Their trained local volunteers offer:

CARESS (Care in East London and Essex)|

Caress offers help and support to people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.

 

Services include hospital visits/accompanying, transport for hospital, spiritual needs and other appointments, befriending/buddying, pet care services while in hospital or respite care, minor home repairs (basic DIY), complimentary therapies, support groups, daytime and evening, referrals to appropriate agencies, help line providing information, support and a counselling service in collaboration with HIV/AIDS Support Team.

 

They also provide monthly advocacy and benefit advice in partnership with London East AIDS Network (LEAN), workshops - safer sex, volunteer network, training, gay and bisexual men's social and support group, gay men's group worker (2 days a week), Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual Help line (East London Friend).

Barking and Dagenham Racial Equality Council|

The Racial Equality Council is an independent voluntary organisation that works towards eliminating racial discrimination and promoting equal opportunity and good relations between the communities in Barking and Dagenham.

 

We provide advice and support to victims of racial discrimination, racial violence or harassment, and to individuals and statutory and voluntary sector agencies on obtaining and providing racial equality.
