The team has been leading the review of local air quality that all councils are required to undertake in line with the UK Air Quality Strategy. This involves monitoring air quality around the borough and predicting where the national standards are likely to be breached.

We are required to review and assess air quality against the objectives in the Air Quality Regulations 2000 and the amendment regulations as part of a rolling 3 year cycle that ends in 2010.
We have declared an Air Quality Management Area along the A13. Once an area is declared, we have to draw up an action plan of how the pollution levels can be improved. There is a consultation on the proposal to expand our air quality management area across the whole borough.
This will not only affect those who live and work in the area, but anyone those who uses the roads in Barking and Dagenham.
