Barking Town Centre has been chosen by the Mayor of London as 1 of 4 'energy action areas' across the city to showcase low carbon communities demonstrating a range of sustainable energy technologies and techniques.
Barking is a major regeneration area in the borough with approximately 7,000 new homes planned over the next 15 years. This presents us and our regeneration partners with a unique opportunity to develop and implement an area wide low carbon energy strategy.
The energy action area strategy aims to deliver a 32% reduction in carbon emissions from all new developments in the town centre.
We have produced a summary guide about the Barking Energy Action Area. A Guide to the Barking Town Centre Energy Action Area (
PDF 827K) provides an introduction to climate change, combined heat and power and the role of the Energy Action Area in reducing carbon dioxide emissions from new developments.
We have also produced a plain English guide - Tackling climate change in Barking and Dagenham (
PDF 619K).
