Empty Properties

We wish to ensure that the number of empty homes in the borough is kept to an absolute minimum because unnecessarily empty properties are a wasted resource - they tend to attract crime including vandalism, Antisocial Behaviour and fly tipping.

They can be an eyesore, blight neighbourhoods and devalue neighbouring properties.

We can help get properties back into use by:

Providing advice and assistance to owners
Providing grants, in appropriate cases, where
- (a) The property will meet the decent homes standard on completion
- (b) We are given the right to nominate tenant for 3 years
- (c) The owner agrees to become an accredited landlord
Enforced sale, or compulsory purchase, where the owner refuses to cooperate
