Houses in multiple occupation are premises in which tenants share parts of the accommodation (kitchens, bathrooms, toilets or simply the hallway or stairs) with people who are not part of the same household.
Houses of multiple occupation often contain the worst housing conditions and the greatest risk of fire and we have a registration scheme to provide some protection for tenants.
Landlords of specified types of houses of multiple occupation are legally required to register them with us. Failure to register is an offence for which landlords can be prosecuted.
Because of changes in legislation this page is currently under development.
