Information for Landlords
The Private Sector Housing Team wish to work with private landlords in the borough to ensure that a good supply of housing is made available for the area's residents. There are a number of ways in which the borough can help private landlords.
Landlord accreditation
The easiest way for us to help a small local landlord is for the landlord's property to become accredited with us. For a property to become accredited it is inspected and has to pass a certain level of fitness and decency, certain management criteria also need to be met.
Once a property is accredited then the landlord is able to access support from the Housing Standards team. They can offer advice on a number of areas, such as tenancy relations, notice to quit and fitness standards.

Housing Advice
The housing standards team are available to give advice to landlords and tenants on housing matters. To contact the team for advice please telephone 020 8215 3002. They will put you through to an available officer or take a message if no officer is available.

Who should read this booklet? You should read this booklet if you are letting (or thinking of letting) part of your only or main home. In law, a resident landlord letting is one where the landlord and the person he or she lets to live in the same building. This includes conversions where they live in different parts of the same property (however long ago it was converted).
