Housing Strategy

Housing regeneration

With the borough at the heart of the government's plans for the Thames Gateway, there are major regeneration opportunities along the London Riverside and within Barking Town Centre.

The housing regeneration team works on these areas in partnership with external agencies, developers, Registered Social Landlords and local communities, towards securing the physical, social and economic regeneration of the borough.

A recent project in Tanner Street saw the removal of old housing stock which was beyond repair with new environmentally sustainable homes, of mixed tenure and of high quality design.

Projects like this are being rolled out in similar parts of Barking, its riverside and all across the borough on the basis that housing regeneration will lead to economic, physical and social renewal in the area.

Further detailed information about the project can be found on the Barking Riverside website.
