The team undertakes research into local housing needs and commissioned the Housing Needs Survey in 2004 which will contribute to the preparation of the new Housing Strategy for 2007-2010. The team also monitors performance and progress against the strategy.
The Strategy sets targets for:
- Increasing overall housing supply
- Delivering affordable homes
- Widening the choice of homes and tenures (including the provision of larger-sized family accommodation)
- Improving the quality and design of new developments
- Supporting access to housing services for those with special needs
- The socially excluded and disadvantaged groups
- Reducing homelessness
- Enhancing the decency of homes in the private sector
The borough's Housing Strategy in 2003-2006 received Fit for Purpose accreditation from the Government Office for London.
