How do I get a school place?

There are 14 Infant Schools, 13 Junior Schools, 22 primary Schools, 1 Secondary Tuition Centre (Referral Unit) and 1 Special School serving the community.

This will help you know what year group your child will be placed in school.

Infant School

3-4 years, Foundation Stage (Nursery)
4-5 years, Foundation Stage (Reception)
5-6 years, Key stage 1 (Year 1)
6-7 years, Key stage 1 (Year 2)

Junior School

7-8 years, Key stage 2 (Year 3)
8-9 years, Key stage 2 (Year 4)
9-10 years, Key stage 2 (Year 5)
10-11 years, Key stage 2 (Year 6)

Secondary School

11-12 years, Key stage 3 (Year 7)
12-13 years, Key stage 3 (Year 8)
13-14 years, Key stage 3 (Year 9)
14-15 years, Key stage 4 (Year 10)
15-16 years, Key stage 4 (Year 11)

You can contact a Primary school (including Infant and Junior schools) directly or go to the Town Hall for a form to apply. For Secondary school you will need to go to the Town Hall.
