It is a confidential list of names of children who have been (or there is grave concern that they may be) physically, emotionally or sexually abused or neglected. The register is kept by Children's Services. Its purpose is to ensure that the child's health and welfare are regularly checked and that parents understand what the concerns are about
A plan will be made during the conference which will outline professional contact with you and your child, what support can be offered, and what needs to change. The aim of the plan is to reduce concerns about your child and assist parents in caring for their child.
There will also be regular meetings with your social worker to review how the plan is working. You will be invited to these meetings unless there are exceptional circumstances which will be explained.
Your child's name will be taken off the Register at a Child Protection Conference when professionals decide there is no longer any risk to your child.
No, the conference and register do not affect the rights of parents. They are affected only if legal action is taken and an order is made in court.
