Heathlands Day Centre

 

What does the service provide?

A structured programme is used to provide various opportunities for service users and includes cookery, gentle exercise, art, music, multi-sensory stimulation, health and beauty, drama, hydrotherapy, personal health, gardening and pottery. Some of these activities are community-based and the emphasis is on getting service users to participate in the local community.

 

Other services offered are therapeutic baths, oral hygiene, dentistry and community-based visits and hydrotherapy.

 

The gardens at Heathlands were specifically designed to provide sensory stimulation for service users (e.g. using various herbs and foliage) whilst at the same time providing a safe and pleasant environment. There is also a separate area for outside activities, which has an astroturf surface.

 

Who is the service provided to?

Adults with profound and complex learning disabilities, multiple disabilities and high dependency needs.

 

Age range

19 - 65 years.

The service users must meet some of the following criteria:

How is the service accessed?

By referral and following an assessment of need. If you do not already have a named Social Worker, the first point of contact for this service is: Adult and Community Services Care Management Team - Telephone (Duty Officer) 020 8227 5432

 

Is the receipt of the service time-limited?

There are regular reviews in the first year and then annual reviews thereafter. Any changes will depend upon the assessed need of the individual and any change in circumstances.

 

Capacity

Heathlands has a capacity of 40 places.

 

Is there a charge for the service?

There is a weekly charge to cover the cost of cooked meals and refreshments.

 

Attendance details

Service users attend Heathlands on a sessional or daily basis, according to their assessed need and each individual will have a programme that is tailored to their specific needs.

 

Opening hours

Monday, 8.40am - 4.10pm

Tuesday, 8.40am - 4.10pm

Wednesday, 8.30am - 4.10pm

Thursday, 8.40am - 4.10pm

Friday, 8.40am - 4pm

(closed on bank holidays)

 

There is a specialist service for adults with autism. There is also a separate weekend service.

Road: Heathlands is situated in the Heathway - opposite Connor Road, which comes off the Heathway

Rail: Dagenham Dock (Chequers Lane)

Tube: Dagenham Heathway (District Line). It is a 20 minute walk from here or you can take the 173 or 175 (below)

Bus: Buses 173 and 175 run along the Heathway
