Adult and Community Services

Welcome to our World (WOW)

What does the service provide?

A structured programme is used to provide various opportunities for service users and includes shop cook and eat, horse riding, bowling, lunch outings, music, computers and craft.

Some of these activities are community-based and the emphasis is on getting service users to participate in the local community.

The unit uses both Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication Handicapped Children, and Pyramid Educational Consultants.

The gardens at Heathlands were specifically designed to provide sensory stimulation for service users (e.g. using various herbs and foliage) whilst at the same time providing a safe and pleasant environment.

There is also a separate area for outside activities which has an astroturf surface. The Autism unit has its own secluded garden where service users grow vegetables and flowers.
