Home Care Service

What is the home care service?

The Home Care Service helps people in their own homes when daily living becomes a problem, or when caring for another person becomes difficult.

We will look at your needs and agree with you what help you require. The Home Care Service provides a practical way to carry on living at home and a real alternative to residential care.

Who we help

As there is a high demand for help and care services in the borough, we have to offer services first to people who most need them. This means that some people might not receive a service from us, although we will if possible suggest other ways of getting help.

What services do we provide?

Home Care is for people of all ages who need help with personal tasks to enable them to live at home. Home Care Assistants may:

Help provided by Home Care Assistants

The main duty of Home Care Assistants is to provide personal care. This includes help to use the toilet, dressing, washing, getting in and out of bed, preparing meals, attending to laundry and emptying commodes.

Home Care Assistants also help to rehabilitate people recovering from illness by encouraging them to maintain activity and movement agreed with doctors, nurses and care managers.

Home Care Assistants do not normally undertake housework unless this is an essential part of personal care.

How can you get hold of this service?

Before any service can be received Adult and Community Services needs to carry out an assessment. This is where our staff talk to you about your needs and find out how best we can support you.

If you would like to contact home care agencies to make your own private arrangements, a list of council approved agencies can be found in alternative providers of care.

Will I have to pay for this service?

Home Care Charging Policy explains about any charges that you may have when receiving this service.

What if you have a complaint?

Barking and Dagenham Adult and Community Services is committed to providing quality services. We need to hear from you if you have any complaints, comments or compliments about the service you receive.
