Children in Need

Children, young people and families

Lots of different people offer family support; it could be a grandparent, next door neighbour or a friend. Your health visitor, teacher or community group can also offer other forms of family support.

Bringing up children is exciting and enjoyable but it is also demanding, tiring and stressful. We all need help at times as none of us are trained to be parents. Children's Services can offer advice and support to your children and you as parents and carers. We are committed to providing high-quality personal services to children, young people and their families.

Children's Services covers a very wide range of provision. However, not everyone who asks us for help can be given a service because we must make sure we can help those in greatest need. We have set 'priority and eligibility criteria' (Conditions) so that we can cover the many groups of children and young people in need.

Children with Disabilities|

Children with disabilities are likely to have been identified by health services as having particular physical, learning or sensory (blind, deaf) needs. In cases where children with identified health needs are not receiving services, the Children with Disabilities Team will assess their needs. The team can provide advice and support and help families plan for the future.

Family Group Conference Project|

The project works with children, young people and their families who may need extra support from the Children's Services Department. Family group conferences are about valuing families and giving them the power to plan for their future by working with them to keep children or young people safe.
