Work Permits

The following teachers would require a work permit in order to take up employment or continue employment within Barking and Dagenham:

Holders of a passport other than British or European Union
Teachers who do not have right to residency including indefinite leave to remain
Students on a student visa or people dependant on a holder of a student visa
Teachers who already hold a work permit for another employer including other local authorities and schools

In order for us to process work permit applications we need the following documents from the applicant:

A full résumé detailing education and employment history from the date you completed your secondary education
A verified copy of the passport photo page
A verified copy of the current visa/leave to remain (stamp/sticker in passport)
A letter from the school employing the applicant detailing the start date of employment and annual salary in figures (not pay scale)
Verified copies of qualifications including degree level qualification and a teaching qualification
Verified copy of UK Qualified Teacher Status certificate if applicant has gained UK Qualified Teacher Status

For work permit extensions:

Holders of current Barking and Dagenham work permits must apply for an extension to their work permit at least 1 month before their current work permit expires in order to continue employment.

The following documents are required for work permit extensions:

A letter from the school employing the applicant detailing the start date of employment and annual salary
A verified copy of Qualified Teacher Status certificate if the applicant has gained UK Qualified Teacher Status
