Parks Closing Hours

Whilst vehicular access into our parks is restricted at night, it is not our normal practise to close and lock pedestrian gates (the exception being those 4 sites listed below).

Some of our Parks are crossed by Public Rights of Way which must stay open 24 hours a day (e.g. Old Dagenham Park).

Under the boroughs 'Pleasure Grounds, Public Walks and Open Spaces Byelaws 1999', it is an offence for individuals to gain entry to those parks listed below (referred to as schedule B sites) which are locked closed at night:

Greatfields Park
St Chads Park
Valence Park and Valence House Grounds
King George's Field (Not currently registered as a Schedule B Site)

The Parks Police close and lock secure those gates which should be closed at around dusk. Unfortunately if the Parks Police have to attend to an alarm call or other incident, the actual time of closing will be delayed.
