Penalty Charge Notices

Parking charges

Following approval of the Mayor of London and the agreement of the Secretary of State, differential parking penalties were implemented across all London boroughs on Sunday 1 July 2007.

This means penalty charge notices now reflect the seriousness of the parking contravention committed.

Contraventions considered to be more serious will attract a higher charge, and contraventions that are considered to be less serious will attract a lower charge.

The charges are shown below:

Borough Roads - Band A

(Applies to areas in and around Barking)

More serious contraventions: £120
Less serious contraventions: £80

Borough Roads - Band B

(Applies to the remainder of the borough)

More serious contraventions: £100
Less serious contraventions: £60

Please note: These charges will be discounted by 50% if paid within the discount period of the issue of the penalty charge notice.

Differential penalty charge notice charges were introduced to create a fairer system, by imposing a greater level of penalty on those that park where it is considered unsafe to do so (e.g. on a yellow line or school keep clear markings).
