The Department of Communities and Local Government launched a standard planning application form in England on Sunday 6 April 2008.
The Standard Planning Application Form (1APP) will replace all existing types of planning application forms (except minerals) within England. This represents the biggest change to the planning system in recent years and a significant step forward in simplifying the planning system.
Currently Local Planning Authorities each produce their own planning application forms. The forms can differ dramatically - an inconsistency in the planning process which often leads to confusion.
1APP will end these discrepancies by ensuring the same information will be requested by every Local Planning Authority in England.
Local Planning Authorities will, however, still be able to customize some of their validation requirements.
Details of Barking and Dagenham's proposed new checklists are contained in the revised validation checklists document (
PDF 331K) and the Information requirements for applications for full planning permission document (
PDF 98K) which also contains a more detailed explanation of the terms used.
This will make the planning system clearer for planning professionals and citizens alike and should result in major efficiency savings for Local Planning Authorities.
The standard planning application form will be available online via the Planning Portal as well as in a paper format from Local Planning Authorities.
