Transport for London provides financial assistance to London boroughs for transport related projects. In the past Transport for London allocated funds via the annual borough spending plan process. In 2006 Transport for London introduced changes to the way in which boroughs apply for funding.
Boroughs now have to submit an annual Local Implementation Plan Funding Submission. Transport for London is due to announce shortly how much money it will allocate to boroughs for the period 2007-2008 to 2009-2010. Information on the previous allocation is provided below.
The Mayor of London announced on 12 December 2005 that Transport for London is allocating a capital grant of £3,005,000 to Barking and Dagenham, to spend on local transport schemes in 2006-2007. This is additional to funds committed for 2006-2007 in previous borough spending plan settlements.
Transport for London has committed through the 2006-2007 borough spending plan settlement a further £607,000 to spend on ongoing schemes in 2007-2008, 2008-2009 and 2009-2010.
This brings the total amount of money awarded to Barking and Dagenham in the 2006-2007 borough spending plan settlement to £3,612,000.
This is only a commitment to certain areas, and we will submit other bids in 2006 as it does every year. The commitment of £607,000 therefore represents only a portion of what Barking and Dagenham is likely to receive for 2007-2008, 2008-2009 and 2009-2010.
Partnerships such as the Thames Gateway London Partnership can also submit bids to Transport for London as part of the borough spending plan process.
Barking and Dagenham is a founder member borough of Thames Gateway London Partnership, and contributes bids to Thames Gateway London Partnership's Regional Spending Plan.
The Mayor of London has allocated £2,322,000 to Thames Gateway London Partnership for 2006-2007, and has committed a further £550,000 for 2007-2008 and 2008-2009.
The Mayor of London has allocated to Thames Gateway London Partnership, as part of this package, funds to develop or implement schemes to improve access to stations in the Thames Gateway area.
The Mayor of London has also allocated funds to promote sustainable transport in the Thames Gateway area, and to finance 2 existing Travel Plan Coordinator posts.
