Traffic Engineering

We make sure that traffic can flow easily through roads and bridges. A variety of measures such as road markings, adopting roads and vehicle weight restrictions are used.

Abnormal Loads|

The movement of large or heavy loads is known as 'abnormal loads'.

Adopted Roads and Highways|

Adopted Roads and Highways involves us taking ownership of a 'private street'.

Bridges - General|

A bridge is a structure carrying the highway over a river, railway or another road, or, carrying a railway or road over the highway.

Bridges - Strengthening|

All of the borough's bridges have been assessed for normal traffic loading in accordance with the prescribed guidelines.

Bus Shelters|

We offer advice concerning the positioning and maintenance of bus shelters.

Closures and Diversions|

Sometimes works on the highway, or some large deliveries, require a road to be closed temporarily to general traffic.

Cycle Lanes and Routes|

Cycle Routes are principally indicated by signs and markings.

Demonstrations and Parades|

Sometimes, in special circumstances roads are closed to allow sporting events or parades to take place.

Geo-Technical Services|

We provide a range of geo-technical services.

Red Routes|

On certain main roads yellow lines indicating a parking ban have been replaced by red lines.

Road Access|

Where possible we provide pedestrian dropped kerbs at all junctions to assist people crossing the road.

Speed Humps|

We receive many requests from residents for these to be introduced in their roads to reduce speeds and improve safety.

Taxi Ranks|

For further information on where taxi ranks are situated.

Weight Limits|

Weight restrictions can be imposed for structural or for environmental reasons.

Yellow Lines|

Yellow lines are provided where there is a need to restrict parking to help alleviate traffic flow and to prevent obstructions on the highway.
