Sports Development
Our aims and objectives
The Sports Development Unit aim:
- We aim to provide for the development of sport in Barking and Dagenham by consulting our community, working with partners and staff and seeking more effective ways to serve our target communities of youth, women, over 50s, people with disabilities, unemployed people and people from minority ethnic communities
- To ensure that the targeted groups enjoy equality of opportunity in sport, access to appropriate forms of sport and active recreation and experience positive social experiences
- To ensure activities maximise user choice through enabling local agencies and targeted communities to have a greater say in the planning, implementation and evaluation process
- To work in partnership with agencies and associations, both locally and nationally and in all sectors to provide a well coordinated, well managed high performing quality service
- To invest in the training of sports volunteers and coaches to enable life long learning opportunities to the community as a whole. Also, to offer employment opportunities where appropriate
- To promote a healthy lifestyle for everyone in our community
- To monitor and evaluate programmes to ensure activities are fulfilling needs, to collate statistics and to determine any trends. We also aim to continually improve services depending on such findings
- To bring in external funding to support and enhance the service and to provide advice and support to local clubs and groups so they too can benefit from funding opportunities that exist
