Terms of Reference
Training and Liaison Governor
Aim
To assist in providing the best possible training and development opportunities for the governing body from within the resources available.
- Support the Head Teacher and the school by ensuring that all training and development focuses on how to raise pupil standards
- Support parents by ensuring that the governing body keeps up to date by participating in regular training and development activities
- Support pupils by ensuring that all training and development activities focus on ensuring governors provide the best possible education
- Support governors by raising awareness and encouraging governors to participate in a wide variety of training and development opportunities
Possible tasks
1. Support the Head Teacher and the school
- Work with the Head Teacher and Chair and by consultation establish the training and development needs of the governing body and individual governors
- Consider with the Head Teacher and Chair a range of training and development opportunities that will help all governors become more effective
- Help to produce a welcome induction pack for new governors
2. Support parents
- Take a lead on the governor training agenda item each term
3. Support pupils
- Ensure all governors fulfil their role effectively by participating on relevant training and development opportunities
4. Support Governors
- Attend the termly local authority briefings and network with other Training and Liaison Governors
- Keep abreast of national, regional and local training and development issues and thereby inform other governors
- Help to plan and organise whole governing body training sessions that are specific to the needs of the school
- Feedback to the local authority strengths of the central training programme and how it could be improved
Note
It must be acknowledged that each school is unique. Therefore these terms of reference should reflect the strengths and challenges of each school and should not be adopted wholesale. The terms of reference should be reviewed annually in the autumn term with any recommendations for change being submitted to the whole governing body.
