4.1 1408 people took part in the consultation. These are classified as follows.
Local residents
- Door-step campaign - 501 surveys completed
- Gascoigne ward - 126 interviews
- Goresbrook ward - 134 interviews
- Alibon ward - 120 interviews
- Heath ward - 121 interviews
- Videoqube / Writing on the Wall events - 323 residents' details captured
- Postal/phone survey of local residents (in all wards except Gascoigne, Goresbrook, Alibon, Heath) - 309 surveys completed
- Depth interviews with Tenants and Residents Association representatives - 11 interviews completed
- Seen and Heard Young Peoples' Conference Community Cohesion workshop - 20 young people participated
- Face to face surveys in local libraries - 109 surveys
- Face to face surveys at Dagenham and Redbridge Football Club/Social Clubs - 57 surveys completed
Voluntary and community sector organisations

Total contacts - 1408 people
All participants lived or worked in the borough. Local residents made up 94% of the total number of participants.
4.2 The profile of respondents
4.2.1 The public
The following conclusions about engagement were found:
- Women were easier to engage than men (64% of participants across all activities were women)
- 77% of people surveyed were white British
- The best way of engaging older people were through the postal survey / by phone (47% of respondents were over 60 years of age)
- The best way of engaging younger people was through Videoqube and Writing on the wall (the average age of participants was 29 although the ages of participants ranged from 9 to 84)
- The best way of engaging with white men was through door knocking and at social clubs and football club

Support and guidance from the Chamber of Commerce was given throughout the process. 5 depth interviews took place with a sample of small business representatives and advocates from across the borough.
