Council Tax

Disablement relief

If you, or someone who lives with you, need a room, or an extra bathroom or kitchen, or extra space in your dwelling to meet special needs arising from a disability, you may be entitled to a reduced council tax bill.

These reductions ensure that disabled people do not pay more council tax on account of the space needed because of a disability.

The bill will be reduced to that of a property in the band immediately below the band shown on the banding list.

From 1 April 2000, if the banding is 'A', a reduction of 1/9th of Band 'D' will apply to qualifying accounts.
