The Mayor is the borough's first Citizen. Within the borough, the Mayor takes precedence over everyone apart from the Sovereign or the Sovereign's official representative the Deputy Lieutenant.
The Mayor is elected each year by the councillors and must be a serving councillor, although the role of the Mayor is non-political.
The Mayor attends over 350 engagements during the year, performing civic duties as well as supporting various organisations and charities.
At most events the Mayor will wear the chain or badge and only wear the robes at major civic occasions. Today's modern Mayor tries to reflect our aims and strategies.
The Mayor's Office provides advisory and administrative support to the Mayor. All invitations and charity events to the Mayor are dealt with through the Mayor's Office.
Civic functions are coordinated and organised through the Mayor's Office or Democratic Services Section. The Mayor's Office is incorporated within Democratic Services.
