We provide a weekly refuse collection and a fortnightly recycling collection service to all residents.  Most houses have a grey wheelie bin for non-recyclable waste, a green bin for garden waste and a brown bin for recycling.  There is a seperate recycling service for residents who live in flats.

Brown wheelie bins

The orange bag scheme is being phased out and replaced with a new brown wheelie bin. This is because it will be a cheaper system to run, and should be easier for residents. It will also lead to tidier streets because orange bags tended to split and blowing down the street on windy days.

Brown bins were delivered to homes across the borough in October and November 2012. You should start using your brown bin as soon as it arrives. Use the bin to recycle exactly the same items that you put in your orange bag – paper, thin cardboard, tin and aluminium cans, plastic bottles and telephone directories. Please put these items in the bin loose – without any plastic bags.

Don’t put glass in your brown bin. Put this in your grey bin and it will be separated from the rest of the rubbish by a machine and recycled.

The brown wheelie bin is larger than the standard grey bin so it will be collected fortnightly. Your grey bin will continue to be collected weekly. Each home will be getting a visit from a council officer who will deliver an information pack telling you how to use the bin, and what your collection week is. Your bin will be collected on the usual collection day.

Blue box recycling

Please note that collections of blue box recycling stopped permanently on 20 April 2012. Visit the Blue boxes web page for more details.

Green Garden Waste Collections

Green garden waste collections will restart on 18 March 2013 for week one collections, and 25 March for week two.
