Our computers are designed to allow customers to do things for themselves and to assist in lifelong learning.

Public computer facilities and internet access

Charges  for computer access 2013 - 2014

From Tuesday 2 April 2013 the following charges will apply for our public computer service.

The service remains free for people under 20 and over 60

Computer Charges

There are three rates available for residents of Barking and Dagenham and one rate for non residents.  The charges apply to full members of the London Libraries Consortium

Barking and Dagenham residents

  • £6 a year 1 hour computer use a day
  • £12 a year 2 hours computer use a day
  • £25 a year 3 hours computer use a day

Non-residents

  • £25 a year 2 hours computer use a day
Library members who are non residents of Barking and Dagenham

If PCs are available, extra time can be bought by all members at £1 per hour

Guest users

If you are not a library member and over 16 you can still use the computers at the following rates.

  • £1 for 30 minutes 
  •  £2 for one hour

Terms and Conditions for Computer Usage

The following terms and conditions apply for the use of computers and computer subscription service in all the libraries in the borough

Office packages such as Word and Excel are also available from public computers and all libraries offer A4 black and white and colour  printing.  Some libraries have scanning facilities available on some PC's, please contact your Local library for details.

  • To book a computer in one of our libraries, use the Online booking form and select the library you wish to use a PC at. You will need to have your library card and PIN number to hand. If you do not know your PIN number, contact your local library.

    Public computer facilities and internet access

    Filtered internet access is available in all libraries, on a drop in basis. At busy times you may have to wait for a PC.  Computers can be used in 1 hour slots with a daily allowance of 2 hours.  

    Office packages such as Word and Excel are also available from public computers and all libraries offer black and white and colour printing from the PC's. Some computers also have scanning facilities too, please contact your local library for details. 

     
  • Wi-Fi access is available from Barking Library and Dagenham Library.

    There are limited plug in points at both libraries for you to use your laptop, so you may need to use your battery pack. Also please note the signal strength may vary around the building.  Wireless printing is also available, currently at Dagenham Library only.  Please ask staff there for details.
     
  • You can search our Library catalogue online and place reservations for stock. You can also check your details on the library system and renew items you have on loan online too
