Joining Barking and Dagenham Libraries is quick, easy and free.

Membership also gives full membership rights in the following London Boroughs (subject to local terms in operation in each authority): Barking and Dagenham, Brent, Ealing, Enfield, Hackney, Havering, Kingston, Lewisham, Merton, Newham, Redbridge, Richmond, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest and Wandsworth.

You will need one proof of name and address which must be current.

Acceptable documents:

• Bank statement
• Council tax card
• Driving licence
• Utility bill
• Prescription card
• Rent card
• Benefit book
• Television licence
• Medical card
• Tenancy/lease agreement
• Pension book

Simply fill in the online application form or pick up an application form at any library. Children will need a parent or guardian's signature.

Children of all ages are welcome to join the library. If you are aged 15 and under then a parent or guardian's signature is required.

Children - Ages up to 15

Borrow up to 16 items. There are no fees or fines on overdue items. A re - hire charge applies if a DVD or video is kept beyond the first loan period.

Adults - Ages 16 and over

• Borrow up to 16 books, books on tape or CD.
• 4 Music CDs or tapes
• 4 films
• 2 language courses

You can keep items for:

• 3 weeks for books, tapes and CDs
• 3 weeks for language courses
• 1 week for films

A fee is charged for borrowing CDs, videos, DVDs and language courses. However, if you take out a 4 month music and film subscription  you can take out 4 CD's for 3 weeks and 4 films for a week at no further cost.

Charges and hire fees
Fines are charged on overdue items.  A rehire charge applies if a DVD or video is kept beyond the original loan period.
