Becontree Heath Leisure Centre in Dagenham opens on Tuesday 31 May, in time for the half term holidays. The much anticipated facility boasts a superb 25 metre, ten lane swimming pool with a movable floor. This will replace Dagenham Swimming Pool, which closed last month, and also Wood Lane Sports Centre further up Wood Lane.
Beside the main pool is a 13 metre teaching pool for learners and mother and baby sessions. Those wanting to keep fit will have plenty of options with the best equipped gym for miles around and more than 40 classes to choose from including zumba, body pump and spinning. There are three work-out studios, including an extra large one with capacity for 150 people which can be divided to be used by different groups and classes.
A multi-purpose sports hall will be used for a variety of indoor sports including badminton, basketball, five-a-side football and others.
There is an indoor soft play area, the Jolly Jungle, with slides, a ball pit and other bits of fun. It has room for 85 children and can be hired out for children’s parties. For more details call 020 8227 3235.
Becontree Heath Leisure Centre will be Games Time Training Venue for Water Polo during the 2012 Olympics.
Cllr Bert Collins, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Arts, said: “After months of planning and building work it will be fantastic to be able to welcome the public into this wonderful new leisure centre. The facilities are top class, making this not only London’s newest leisure centre, but also one of the best.
“With the large number of sports and fitness classes on offer there is something for all people and all ages. We also offer a very attractive membership package in the form of our Active Membership card.
“With the half term holidays next week it’s an ideal time to come down and see what Becontree Heath Leisure Centre has to offer.”
