New registry opens in Grade II listed Woodlands on Rainham Road

After 49 years registering births and conducting marriages and civil partnerships, the Registry Office in Barking will finally close its doors to the public on Friday 8 March.

It will be replaced by a former old people’s hostel and children’s home - a Grade II listed building at Woodlands House, Rainham Road North from Monday 11 March.

The move will allow the Registration Service update its facilities as the new registry office will have dedicated welcome areas, and more modern facilities in order to better meet the differing needs of local people.

Council Leader, Councillor Liam Smith said “We welcome this move to modernise our registration services.

“Woodlands has been a home to many in this borough, and it is encouraging to see how such a historic and beautiful building which is very much a part of our heritage continues to provide essential services for years to come.”

Residents and callers to the service should note that on Friday 8 March, the registry office at Arden House 198, Longbridge Road, Barking IG11 8SY will be closed all day and will be open to the public on Monday 11 March at its new location - Woodlands House, Rainham Road North, Dagenham RM10 7ER.

Opening times and telephone number remain the same 020 8270 4744.

In the event that an emergency registration is required on Friday 8 March 2013 please call 020 8270 4744 to speak to a registrar.

The Out of Hours service will be available as normal.
