Introducing Me
Hiya guys!!

As some of you may know my name is Kymberly Otchere and I am the first Youth Champion of Barking and Dagenham. It gives me great honour to represent you and your voice to make changes and to make the borough a better place for not only you but for other generations to come. So, I have been in the Barking and Dagenham Youth Forum for, what will now be my second year. It’s been great being here meeting new friends and learning new things. The BAD Youth Forum elected me to be the Youth Champion, as they felt I have the right frame of mind and skills to take on this role. So here I am!!

My plans hopefully for this year are to:
• Break the boundaries between music and racism.
• Get young people more involved in activities going on in the borough.
• Arrange a project.

These are some of the things I have started doing since I have become YC.

I decided I wanted to do a project of my own and I applied for funding and got it. This project goes by the name of ‘London music project presents; I’m special because’. Ranging from 13+, this choir is pointing out the positive aspects of the youth in Barking and Dagenham showing unison and community spirit with youth from all walks of life. The main aim of this choir is to enable youth to learn from each other, making sure that each individual knows that they are special because…We will go around local youth clubs and schools, and we will show them what we are doing, and we will share our stories with them, and then we will finish with a fantastic finale. This will be a project that will bring enjoyment and happiness to the community and ultimately recruit youth off the streets and get them involved in a project that will boost their self esteem and give them confidence. This project will get the youth of the streets; this project is designed to bring the best out of people. It will give them a focus; it will give them something to live for. It will bring youth of all races and cultures together. Music is a language that everyone understands and I believe through music, we can make a change and we will bring unity, hopefully for not only the youth of the borough but the whole community.

I will be writing to you every month, keeping you updated on what I am doing. So watch out for this space!!!
