Community Services, Libraries and Heritage

The Community Services, Libraries and Heritage service exists to Connect people and change lives.

We do this by:

Improving quality of life - adding value and choice to statutory public services
Promoting and providing lifelong learning and opportunities for personal development
Developing a sense of time, place and belonging
Facilitating inclusivity, fairness, and equal access to services, and affirming diversity
Bringing people closer to decision-making
Building community infrastructure through involvement and support to voluntary and community organisations, leading to economic and social vitality
Helping people to enjoy themselves!

We do this through the following services:

The team seeks to enable and support and enable people from all backgrounds to become active and enabled citizens in stronger communities. The team also manages the Community Halls service.

Equalities and Diversity|

This team supports the whole Council to meet its commitment to promote equal opportunities and celebrate diversity.

Heritage Services|

This service manages the borough's Museum, Local Studies and Archive Service at Valence House Museum, and the historic Eastbury Manor House. It is also responsible for the Heritage Strategy for the whole borough.

Libraries in Barking and Dagenham offer an exciting range of services to help you enjoy your leisure time or help you get the most out of your studies
