Urban Design

 

The key role of this team is to promote quality in Urban Design throughout the council, develop key Urban Design strategies and policies, Produce design briefs, comment and advise on design proposals and design aspects of Regeneration Implementation project work, advice on Conservation, Heritage and Landscape aspects and develop capacity within the division and with Members and colleagues, on design issues.

 

Building and Landscape Design|

Attractive and lively buildings, streets, parks and neighbourhoods, especially those with a mixture of compatible uses and historic character, all contribute to making the area a special place which is a pleasure to live in. The quality of our surroundings is also now recognised as a vital factor in attracting and retaining businesses, employers and tourists.

 

Conservation Advice|

Section 69 of the Civic Amenities Act 1969 gives local Councils the power to designate as Conservation Areas, 'areas of special architectural or historic interest, the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance'.

 

Conservation Areas|

Conservation areas can be defined as 'Areas of special architectural or historic interest, the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance'.

 

Listed Buildings|

A 'listed building' is a building, object or structure that has been judged to be of national historical or architectural interest.

 

Tree Preservation Orders|

Tree Preservation Orders were introduced to enable Local Planning authorities to protect important trees.
